She comes from a non-theatrical family.Her acting career started with classical theatre and she stated in 2001 that it was “very unfashionable” to begin a career in classical theatre. However, she was inspired to do so by actors like Judi Dench and Ian Holm who “started in rep and slowly built themselves into the position where they could juggle theatre and film”.For the first 5 years of her acting pursuits, Victoria Hamilton worked in productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.She made her theatrical film debut as Henrietta Musgrove in the 1995 period drama film, Persuasion, which was directed by Roger Michell.In March 1995, she made her first TV show appearance by playing the role of Zandra in an episode titled Writing on the Wall of the family comedy series, Cone Zone.In 2002, Victoria Hamilton was cast in the New Ambassador’s Theatre, London production of the play A Day in the Death of Joe Egg and her performance got her nominated for the 2002 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award.
