Marc Gilpin was an American child actor. He appeared in The Legend of the Lone Ranger in 1981. He retired in 1989 and died in Dallas of glioblastoma on July 29, 2023, at the age of 56.
Marc Gilpin’s parents: Meet Jim O’Brien
Marc Gilpin is the son of Jim O’Brien and Barbara Bushway. Much is not known about his mother, however, his father Jim O’Brien was born James Franklin Oldham, and he was an American newscaster. After short stints at radio stations KHJ in Los Angeles and WOR-FM in New York City, he came to Philadelphia in 1970 to become a disc jockey at radio station WFIL.
Jim O’Brien joined the WPVI-TV Channel 6 Action News team as a sports anchor in 1973. He became the weatherman, and eventually co-anchored the 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM newscasts, the local edition of Dialing for Dollars, and the weekend magazine show Primetime.
Jim O’Brien was born in Galveston in 1939 and attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He was posthumously inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame in 1997.
Jim O’Brien married Sandra Jo Hauck in a small ceremony in Texas. They had two daughters, actress Peri Gilpin who was born Peri Kay Oldham, and played the character Roz Doyle on the television program Frasier, and Patti Jo Wynne Oldham, who married Shannon Wynne.
Jim O’Brien passed away at the age of 43, on September 25, 1983, near Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, U.S. His cause of death was not revealed.
