He is a young American international from England. McFarlane, a JIGS Soccer Academy youth product, joined the New York City FC youth academy in 2018 and advanced through their youth ranks.

On September 16, 2021, he signed his first professional deal with New York City FC at the age of 14 years and 7 months.

In the process, he became the third-youngest player to sign a Major League Soccer contract.
